Smyrna adds a basketball transfer

Smyrna(DE) basketball lost a key piece to their boys basketball team as Nalik- Veasley Johnson(2019 6’8 F) moved to North Carolina and will attend North Stanly for his senior season.  Nalik was a huge part of the team’s success helping them reach the state championship game last season. With Veasley Johnson moving  it left a void on the defensive end, especially in the rebounding area.  That piece may now be replaced with incoming transfer, 2020 6″6 F Matthew Obiagu.  Obiagu played last year at The Caramel School in Ruther Glen(VA).  Matthew just started playing the game of basketball a few years ago, but is already excelling on the defensive end(becoming a great defender and rebounder).  This does not come to any surprise as Matthew is the younger brother of 7″ C Ike Obiagu(shot blocking specialist) of Seton Hall.  Ike recently transferred to Seton Hall after playing his freshman season at Florida State.  “Matthew is a very competitive, hard-working young man, who is a great defender and rebounder, as well a great student”, says Toby Campbell(Head Coach of The Caramel School).  Adding him to the returnees at Smyrna, players such as Jaymeir Garnett/Nahshon Sylvester they should be in contention to fight with Dover, Sussex Tech, and Caesar Rodney for the Henlopen North.
